INTERNATIONAL TRUSTEE

I am a candidate for the position of Trustee representing Region II because I believe that Kiwanis International needs my passion, energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to children and change.  Further, I believe that in the face of the evolving Kiwanis world, Region II needs a strong presence on the International Board.

In the immediate aftermath of our hugely successful I.D.D. campaign, we suffered, quite understandably, from organization let-down.  We reverted to the status quo.  And the status quo will not do.  At the International level, there has been no new initiative to provide the leadership necessary to develop programs that respond to the desperate needs of our world’s children.  Individual Kiwanis clubs are providing tremendous service to children both at home and abroad.  Kiwanis International needs to provide the leadership that will make our motto, Serving the Children of the World, a motto with meaning.

Debbie and I sat on the International YCPO committee for 2 years during which we watched, with growing alarm, the decline in the committee’s influence at the International level.  We must remain steadfast in our mission to serve the world’s children and KI needs to step back up to the plate and provide the necessary leadership.

There is a growing belief at the grass roots level that in order for Kiwanis to survive and thrive, there is a need for change.  Attendees at recent International Conventions will have noted a strong resistance to fundamental changes in the way Kiwanis works in response to how society functions, at home and in the workplace, in the 21st century.

The Bylaws and Policies and Procedures of Kiwanis International are barriers to membership and to the development of innovative programmes and Kiwanis Clubs.  They are stifling the organization by declaring what we can’t be as opposed to opening up the possibilities of what we could be.

The grass roots desire for change must have a strong representation at the International level.  I will be that voice.

Kiwanis is at a critical crossroads.  We appear to be losing our focus on children and we are shackled in our desire to evolve into the thriving organization that the children need us to be.  As I have been all my life, I will be a strong advocate for our children and a strong advocate for change.

I never cease to be amazed by the power of one, particularly one who believes.  And I believe.+

I, respectfully, ask for your support.
